Unlock their On-Ice Potential

At B Elite Edge Training, we believe in building strong fundamentals, confidence, and a genuine love for hockey in young players aged 7-11. Discover our unique programs designed to make learning fun and impactful, guided by an NHL veteran's expertise.

Our program offerings

We offer a range of specialized programs tailored for young hockey players aged 7-11, focusing on positive skill development through engaging on-ice sessions. Our approach combines fundamental drills with fun, game-based learning to build both skills and a lasting love for the game.

Elite skills clinics

Our clinics emphasize core skills like skating (edges, balance, speed), shooting (weight transfer, follow-through), precise stickhandling, and accurate passing. These sessions are designed to refine technique and build a strong technical foundation.

Game-based learning

We integrate skill development into exciting games like 1v1, 2v2, sharks and minnows, King of the Ring, Trucks & Trailer and keep-away. This approach keeps kids engaged and passionate, allowing them to improve their hockey IQ and abilities without feeling pressured.

Summer camps & development

Our comprehensive summer camps and development programs combine on-ice skill work with off-ice training. Players receive pro-level tips, often including jerseys and signed gear, creating memorable experiences while fostering growth.

On-Ice Philosophy

My on-ice focus is simple: Positivity. Reassurance. Skill development. Fun.

If we’re not having fun, it’s not worth our time.

We want kids to enjoy being on the ice — competing, learning, and becoming the best versions of themselves. Confidence grows when players feel supported, encouraged, and excited to improve.

Skill Development

Shooting

We teach shooting fundamentals:

• Proper body weight transfer

• Keeping arms away from the body

• Following through to the target

Practicing correct fundamentals builds muscle memory. Learning how to shoot properly helps players score more goals — and everyone loves scoring goals.

Skating

Skating is the most important skill in hockey.

The best skaters in the world are the best players in the world. Simple as that.

We emphasize:

• Inside and outside edges

• Balance and body control

• Comfort leaning and pushing limits

I’m a firm believer that strong outside edges lead to:

• Better glide

• Increased speed

• Elite balance

When players trust their edges, they become harder to knock off the puck and more confident in every situation. Less time on their backs, more time making plays.

Stick-Handling

Practice is key to becoming great with the puck.

We focus on:

• Carrying the puck at speed

• Proper puck positioning

• Protecting the puck

• Moves that create time and space

The goal is to help players beat defenders 1-on-1 and make plays under pressure.

Passing

Passing is a fundamental skill we focus on every day and is the most underrated aspect in our game today.

A great pass doesn’t just move the puck — it sets up the next play.

We emphasize:

  • Head up — you need to see your target
  • Follow through toward your target — accuracy starts here
  • Stick on the ice for the receiver — present a good target and be ready to corral the puck
  • Heel-to-toe release — spin the puck so it stays flat on the ice

The goal of every pass is simple: put your teammate in a position to succeed.

A good pass allows the receiver to make a play immediately, not fight the puck.

Think about how you want to receive the puck —

that’s exactly how you should pass it.

When we pass with intention, we play faster, cleaner, and with more confidence.

Our Vision

Unlike programs that push intense drills too early, B Elite Edge Training offers a unique approach. Led by 15-year NHL veteran Brendan Smith, we target the crucial 7-11 age window for grassroots development, prioritizing fun, confidence, and passion. Our focus on core fundamentals within engaging games ensures kids absorb skills quickly and joyfully, forming a strong foundation for their hockey journey.

More than just hockey skills

At B Elite Edge Training, we aim for children to gain more than just elite skating, shooting, stickhandling, and passing abilities. We hope they develop a genuine, lasting love for hockey, unshakable confidence, and strong character traits like resilience, grit, teamwork, and respect. It's about creating positive memories, fostering friendships, and learning crucial life lessons that extend far beyond the rink.

A foundation for life

Hockey gave Brendan incredible opportunities and relationships over 15 NHL years. Our goal is to help young players build the same foundation of passion, confidence, and fun that lasts a lifetime. In these key developmental years, we build not just better players, but happier, more self-assured kids who enjoy the process, support each other, and leave the ice smiling every time.
